Character Information

Name: Murphy Pendleton
Age: 30's
Fandom: Silent Hill: Downpour
Appearance:  http://images.wikia.com/silent/images/d/df/Murphypendletonnew.png
History: http://silenthill.wikia.com/wiki/Murphy_Pendleton
Canon Point: Post game, ending 'B'

Personality: Before his son's death Murphy was a generally good guy. His parol information states that he is a model prisoner, and NPCs refer to him as 'better then this place'. He's a little quiet and can occasionally have a temper, but he's what you would consider a good natured suburban father.

Then, his son Charlie dies. Not only dies, but is killed in the most horrible way. This event changes Murphy, not helped by the fact that he sees the police pull his son's body from the lake, and is blamed for the death by his wife- who leaves him. Murphy is traumatized beyond meassure, and becomes obcessed with one goal- revenge. Othersides of Murphy's personality appear. He is dedicated, maticulous and worst of all can be ice cold when he has to be. He hotwires a police car and goes for a state wide joy ride just so he can get arrested and sent to the prison his son's killer is kept at- then makes a 'deal with the devil' to get access to him. And when the time comes, his vengance is brutal.

But it's a heavy point to make that, even after all of that, he's unable to kill the man (though considering the damage he did he might have died regardless) and later on, when called upon to kill someone else to pay back the guard who helped him... he outright refuses to do so. Murphy can be cold... but he is not heartless.

In fact one could say he's exactly the reverse. Though out his stay in Silent Hill he shows little glimpses of a soft hearted man. He scatters the ashes of a dead couple to put them to rest, sets birds free from cages where they'd slowly starve, and even spares the life of the woman trying to kill him not once, but twice. And while his temper understandably flares when faced with the weirdness of the town, he generally stays on the 'right' side of things. Over the course of his journey he comes to understand the futility of revenge and his own guilt over Charlie's death, and the pointlessness of the deaths he has caused. He's grown as a person, and found a way to move on, now 'free' not only from his cell, but from his own pain.

Game Specific

Suitability: Murphy has already seen *much* worse then Santa Destroy. Not only that, but he spent his stay in Silent Hill fighting for his life. One can also assume he fought at least a few times in prison- he can certainly defend himself and will fight to the death if he thinks he has to.

Weapon: The Bogeyman's Sledgehammer. This weapon looks like a huge oversized hammer made up of a nearly 5 foot long wooden handle attached to a cinder block. It has no lasers or anything like that, and in fact is so heavy that it's user is slow as all hell.
BUT it does have a benifit. When it's being used the user's adrinaline and stamina are greatly increased. In video game terms- HUGE HEATH BAR so while Murphy is slow, he can take huge amounts of damage before going down.

Samples

Log/Third Person Sample: Santa Destroy was, on the surface, quite a bit different then Silent Hill. Sunny and hot instead of foggy and heavy with bone chilling cold. Clear blue skies instead of a constant rainfall that made him think of lakes and soggy three foot tall bags in row boats.

Not to mention the things out to kill you lacked the eyeless faces and claws and instead tried to makes friends before ripping into your back.

But really, it was all the same. He couldn't leave, though god help him he tried. Getting turned around just as easily as he did against endless pits. It was just easier to get distracted here. He could work or socialize or watch stupid movies and try to forget. At least until he saw some young woman or child die over and over again on the tiny video game system they gave him (Charlie had one like this. It was a little bulkier and had only one screen but he knew Nintendo when he saw it. Charlie had loved the game where you collected little critters most, and everytime he saw this one he wanted to die a little) and he remembered how much life liked to fuck him.

He looked down at his hands, glaring at the black grit under his nails that was actually just oil and grease from the truck he had been working on but that he kept wanting to see as blood. "What the hell do you WANT from me...?"

His hands or the city or God or anyone... none answered, and he just shook his head with a small grumble of annoyance, buring his hands back in the engine he was taking apart. The honest work was the only thing that stopped him from thinking even for a little while. It was that or checking the handheld and being tempted to talk to the people here... more people he couldn't help.

It was just the same thing over and over.

Journal Entry/First Person Sample:

[The screen comes on to a worn and battered man sitting on the sidewalk, looking at the huge box in his lap]

What the hell..! No, no I was OUT, damn it, you can't DO this to me!

[He glares at the screen, looking torn and hurt by it's very existance.]

I get it, I fucked up, but a change of scenery isn't going to... damn it why the hell am I talking like someone will answer. [He reaches over to the box opening it... and then goes ghostly pale]

IS THIS SOME SICK JOKE?!

[He flips the box off his lap, and the viewers can see a huge sledge hammer before he reaches over and shuts the DS off]
